Team North Miami Jaycees needs your help in raising more than $2,500 for the American Cancer Society’s 2013 North Miami/North Miami Beach/Miami Shores Relay for Life (May 31-June 1) . Team members will be raising funds through their personal connections with friends, family, and colleagues, and we will be selling hotdogs and hamburgers on-site at the overnight event which will also feature live entertainment.
The North Miami Jaycees have signed-up as a lender with Kiva, a non-profit organization that works with microfinance institutions on five continents to provide loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. Like the line in the Jaycee Creed that reads “…economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise”, Kiva believes that “providing safe, affordable access to capital to those in need helps people create better lives for themselves and their families”. A year ago, we started a handful of $25 microloans to hand-picked young entrepreneurs across the globe, and since then we have used repayment funds to make loans to more than 30 young business people in 18 foreign countries. For a limited time, you can help us increase our global impact by making a FREE $25 loan (as our guest) by clicking here.
On Saturday, March 30th, members of the North Miami Jaycees assisted the City of North Miami Parks & Recreation Department at the Annual Spring Egg Hunt at Enchanted Forest Park in North Miami. Hundreds of children and their families enjoyed games, bounce houses, refreshments and Egg Hunt prizes. Members helped prepare the park, distributed eggs, manned bounce houses, and egg hunt locations.
On Saturday, October 27th, members of the North Miami Jaycees hosted their annual family-friendly community Halloween event featuring refreshments, games, prizes, and (of course) pumpkin carving. This event was made possible through generous underwriting by the Keystone Point Homeowners Association and the City of North Miami Parks & Recreation Department.
North Miami Jaycees Heather J. Holliday, Michael Holliday, and Jon Nickel joined North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin for the Florida AIDS Walk (and Music Festival) on Sunday May 20th in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. “Galvin’s Politically Incorrect” team raised nearly $3,000, contributing to the event’s grand total of over $826,000 for HIV/AIDS education, testing, and healthcare throughout Florida.
Around the world, thousands of people (many of whom are children) die each day from malaria. We cannot afford to wait to take action, so that’s why the North Miami Jaycees raised $1,000 to support Junior Chamber International’s Nothing But Nets campaign. Through sales of stuffed bears (@$10 each) and our online Net-Raiser page, we raised enough funds to help 100 families in Sub-Saharan Africa. All funds raised went directly, and entirely, for the purchase of insecticide-treated bed nets for families in malaria-stricken countries. The nets (along with education on their proper use) will be distributed through the United Nations Foundation and its partners (the World Health Organization, the American Red Cross, and UNICEF). Thanks to all of those who helped us reach our goal, but we encourage you to make additional online donations through our online Net-Raiser page, helping JCI reach their goal of distributing 1 million nets by 2015.
